Computers frequently fail to demonstrate stable high performance because of some problems with RAM. It may be failure to install RAM.
As well there may be mistakes while installing RAM or directly while its operating. In this article we show you how to check laptop memory.
Being already installed, RAM may appear on the blue screen or reload suddenly. This is caused by mistakes done while writing or reading in RAM.
When OS is working it uses RAM as buffer for storing the programs and data code.
The processor reads and fulfills programs code being stored in RAM. If some cells of RAM are damaged then after writing, there may appear errors while reading.
As a result, users have problems with PC performance described above. There have been cases when laptops have not switched on just because of poor contact between memory modules and the slot. Thus, to know how to check laptop memory adequately is necessary for normal operating of the device.
Sometimes memory modules located near the PCU heat sink, fail to operate as usual because of overheating. The same happens when dust from the cooler falls into slots.
Everyone who would not like to have problems with his device should know how to check laptop memory. To check that RAM is not damaged you have to use special utilities working under OS DOS.
DOS uses no more than 1 Mb of RAM and allows testing RAM completely. However, Windows doesn't allow testing RAM adequately because it uses much memory while working.
We recommend you to use Memtest86 or Memtest86+ utilities. As well, revised OCZ Memtest86 versions may be used. When installing, MemTest86+ creates a diskette, thus, to start testing you should only load the computer from this diskette.
Moreover, a boot disk may be created by downloading an ISO image. Various 8 bit samples are being written into memory cells and then may be read and matched with the original.
There are 11 tests in the program, 5-7 of which are the most difficult. You may manually choose test numbers you would like to fulfill.
All the tests are being fulfilled automatically in an infinite mode. Testing process lasts until a stop signal (pressing ESC button).
